Bengal Brasserie have just celebrated their 5th birthday with a party for their “Bengal family”.
The family run business opened in 2011, and despite healthy competition has built a reputation as one of the best restaurants in Bedford. Shish and his team have worked hard to perfect a varied menu and create a welcoming atmosphere for their guests, as their loyal following shows.
The restaurant can seat up to 80 covers and has a function room upstairs, ideal for parties. Décor is bright and simple making the space feel cosy but clean.
We were presented with a mixed platter of starters including some tender and flavoursome chicken tikka, tasty somosa and pakoras, all cooked to perfection. Often there can be a bit too much oil in a pakora for me, but not on this occasion. We tore through this in no time and waited with anticipation for the main course.
We weren’t disappointed. There followed two of their signature dishes, accompanied by Bombay Aloo, Pilaw Rice and Nan. Aami Chicken, cooked in a rich sauce flavoured with mango and Chi Shukrab, a well spiced dish with a slightly sweet and sour flavour. As with the starter, the chicken is beautifully cooked, not at all dry and we found the two dishes complemented each other well.
Following a warm welcome, delicious food and a relaxed atmosphere we were made to feel like part of the Bengal family and are looking forward to returning to sample some more of the menu.
If you can’t face leaving your sofa, Bengal Brasserie offer a takeaway delivery service. Equally if you’re feeling a bit strapped, visit on a Wednesday evening when they offer a 5 course taster menu for £9.95.
